The Lobster 🦞restaurant in Santa Monica

The Lobster sits right on the corner of Route 66 and the Santa Monica Pier and it is one of those spots that everybody recommends. I went for happy hour which runs from 3 to 6 and the happy hour itself was the best part. $10 glasses of wine with a solid pour and a nice little menu of cocktails and small bites.

So I started with the lobster bisque since it is one of their signature dishes. Normally it is $26 but during happy hour it was $13. OMG I am so glad I didn’t pay full price. It just was not what I wanted from a lobster bisque. Instead of creamy and buttery with salty lobster flavor, it came with lots of potatoes and celery and tasted more like a tomato base. The flavor gave me red clam chowder vibes with some lobster pieces thrown in. Maybe someone out there absolutely loves it but I was disappointed.

For my entrée I ordered the pound and a half lobster for $63. It came steamed but it was watery and loaded with eggs which made it a letdown. The funny part is the sides completely outshined the lobster. The green beans and potatoes were seasoned beautifully and honestly became the highlight of my meal.

The bill was $95 and with tip $100 even. Service at the bar was fine but not memorable. The view of the pier was beautiful but the food was not worth the money. If I go back I will skip The Lobster and head straight for something casual on the pier instead.
